For those looking for the local experience (i.e. cheap), here’s how I did Chocolate Hills, the Tarsier Sanctuary and the man-made forest for under 300₱ ($5.81 USD).
I took a tricycle from Tagbilaran Central to Dao Integrated Bus Terminal (across Island City Mall). It negotiated for 30₱ (57¢ USD).
At the station, I boarded a bus heading to Carmen. The trip cost 60₱ ($1.14 USD) and took roughly 2 hours. The seats on the bus are quite cramped, so aim for the aisle if possible. The ticket guy told me when to get off.
I walked up the road because I lost feeling to my legs on the bus. But there are habab-habab (motorbike taxi) waiting to whisk you up there for a nominal fee. The walk took me about 15 minutes.
But before you go, make sure to buy the entrance fee ticket at the toll gate. 50₱ (96¢ USD).
Once I got there to the visitor’s area, there’s a ticket check lady in an office. She could be avoided, but since I had my ticket already, I showed it to her. I probably spent 1 hour there, mainly it was due to the hoards of your groups there.
To get to the Tarsier Sanctuary, I took a bus heading back to Tagbilaran and asked to stop a bit after the city of Bilar. The trip cost me 20₱ (39¢ USD) and took 30 minutes.
A ticket to the Tarsier Sanctuary cost me 50₱ because they accepted my student ID card. Otherwise, it’s 60₱. I saw 5 sleeping tarsiers and spent 30 minutes there.
I walked along the road heading towards Tagbilaran for about 20 minutes until I reached the man-made forest. There wasn’t much to it. Just lots of trees.
I flagged down another bus to Tagbilaran and returned to Tagbilaran. The ride cost 40₱.
In theory, I could have gone to Lobac to do the river cruise but I wasn’t too fussed about it. Especially when I heard the average cost of a cruise was about 300-400₱ plus a 100₱ entrance fee to be on the river.
Once I got back to the bus terminal, I got a tricycle back to Tagbilaran central after some hard bargaining for 30₱.
